The BBC's online news reports said that Omar al-Bashir was ousted from the army base on Thursday evening in the local time. Sudan's vice president, Awad bin Of, said on the state television that the army took responsibility for two years until the next election, after the transfer of power to the elected party. At the same time a three-month state of emergency has been issued.
Omar al-Bashir has been in power since 1989. The protest was going on for several months. Awad bin Of said that Omar al-Bashir would be kept safe. He said the Sudanese constitution is being suspended, the border will remain closed until further notice and the 24-hour airport will be closed.
Omar al-Bashir was the warrant of arrest in the International Criminal Court (ICC). He was charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Darfur area in the western part of Sudan.
